ASYLUM & REFUGEE LAW
If you and/or your loved ones are at risk of harm in your home country because of who you are or if your home countries government will not protect you, asylum is a legal status that the U.S. government can grant you and/or your family.
Seeking asylum in the U.S. is a complicated process and an asylum-seeker has a much better chance of being granted this type of protection if he or she has good representation from knowledgeable lawyers that understand the system. According to the UNIVERSITY of PENNSYLVANIA LAW REVIEW, A National Study of Access to Counsel in Immigration Court, December 2015, asylum seekers who are represented by an attorney are three times more likely to have their case granted than applicants that do not have an attorney.
Asylum applicants must apply for asylum within 1 year of entry to the United States unless a specific set of circumstances are met by you. Asylum also requires that the applicant provide credible testimony and a significant amount of evidence in support of their application – cases are often denied because the applicant did not produce sufficient evidence or submitted it incorrectly.
