Rebecca is a Senior Paralegal at Solow, Hartnett & Galvan, LLC

Rebecca Baik works in SHG Immigration Law’s Philadelphia Office. Before joining our firm, she worked for over seven years as a paralegal for Surin & Griffin, PC. Rebecca specializes in family-based cases, including inadmissibility waivers, U visas, TPS, asylum, and removal defense cases.  She is fluent in Spanish, and speaks some Korean.

My Immigrant Story:

I was born and raised in the United States. I don’t know where most of my people came from, but a few generations back some family members on my father’s side were French Canadians who immigrated to Maine in the early 20th century to find work. 

As an adult, I spent time in Latin America, primarily Tijuana, Mexico, so that I could learn Spanish.  I first became interested in immigration law through my time spent at the border.  

My husband immigrated to the United States from Korea when he was three years old. When we married, I took his last name Baik (백, pronounced “Beck”). I am learning Korean so that I can communicate with my husband’s family and our daughter 지혜, who is a native Korean speaker.

나의 이민 이야기:

저는 미국에서 태어나고 자랐습니다. 어느 나라 출신인지 잘 모르지만, 아버지 쪽 가족 중 몇 세대 전에 20세기 초에 프랑스 캐나다인 가족들이 일자리를 찾기 위해 메인으로 이민했습니다.

성인이 된 후, 저는 스페인어를 배우기 위해 대부분 티후아나, 멕시코에서 시간을 보냈습니다. 저는 이민법에 대한 관심을 처음에는 국경에서 보낸 시간을 통해 갖게 되었습니다.

제 남편은 3살 때 한국에서 미국으로 이민했습니다. 우리가 결혼할 때, 제가 그의 성을 Baik (백, “백“으로 발음)으로 바꿨습니다. 저는 제 남편의 가족과 저희 딸인 지혜와 소통하기 위해 한국어를 배우고 있습니다. 지혜는 모국어로 한국어를 구사합니다.
